Every shoot teaches you something. This one taught me that the best light happens ten minutes after you want to give up.
The setup
I wanted a moody, early-morning look without any artificial lights. The plan was simple: arrive before sunrise, scout the location, and let the sky do the work.
What actually happened
- The first location was locked.
- My second battery was still on the charger at home.
- It started drizzling the moment I unpacked.
By most measures, the morning was a disaster. But while packing up, I noticed the wet pavement reflecting the last bit of blue hour. That reflection became the opening shot.
The takeaway
Gear and planning matter, but showing up when conditions aren't perfect matters more. Some of my favorite work came from mornings I almost skipped.
